Stories from Norway is a collection of five wonderful short stories from Philip Newth. Each is a re-telling of one of the many fantastical myths and legends of the Nordic people, with trolls, nissens, Hulder Folk and even a Grimen making an appearance. Aimed at children between seven and eleven years old – though perfect for readers of all ages – the stories were originally broadcast on the BBC program Jackanory in 1974, narrated by much-loved Doctor Who and Worzel Gummidge actor Jon Pertwee. Philip Newth is an Anglo-Norwegian author of children's literature who has written more than fifty books and is a previous winner of the Norwegian Critics Prize for Best Children’s Book. His wife – and the illustrator of Stories from Norway – is Mette Newth, whose father is the well-known Norwegian author Fridtjof Knutsen. Together Philip and Mette share a son, Eirik Newth, who himself is a writer of children’s science fiction as well as an astrophysicist and media personality.
