The Herero Wind is a powerful historical novel of survival and memory, set during the 1904 Herero genocide in German South West Africa. For readers of Bryce Courtenay and Wilbur Smith, it is a sweeping tale of courage and resilience in the face of extinction.
As Lieutenant General Lothar von Trotha issues his extermination order, the Herero people are driven into the desert to face hunger, thirst, and death. Among them is Kohepa, a Herero scout carrying a forbidden message of hope, pursued across a land where every shadow hides danger. With him walks a younger brother still too young to believe in death, a missionary’s daughter who risks everything for mercy, and companions whose courage and memory may be the last defence against extinction.
The Herero Wind is the first book in The Sands of Empire trilogy, an epic that brings to life one of the earliest genocides of the twentieth century. Blending meticulous historical detail with powerful storytelling, it explores survival, loss, and the endurance of the human spirit carried on the desert wind.
