Antitheses of Marcion : The Controversial Foundation of Gnostic Christianity - The Lost Forbidden Text That Divided the Early Church and Challenged the Old Testament

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Have you ever wondered why early Christian leaders fought so fiercely over the nature of God What if the very foundations of your faith were built upon a theological battlefield In Antitheses, Marcion of Sinope presents one of the most controversial and provocative arguments in religious history. Written in the second century, this lost, forbidden text sought to permanently sever the ties between the Old and New Testaments. Marcion argued that the demanding, often wrathful creator God of the Hebrew scriptures could not possibly be the same supreme being of pure, unconditional love introduced by Jesus Christ. This radical dichotomy-the antitheses between law and grace, justice and mercy, fear and love-ignited a firestorm that divided the early Church.Condemned as heresy, Marcion's teachings were systematically suppressed, and his original writings were destroyed by orthodox authorities. Yet, his ideas were so powerful that they forced the early Church to formalize its own biblical canon. This meticulous modern translation and reconstruction pieces together the fragmented remnants of Marcion's profound theological challenge, offering readers an unprecedented look into the schisms that defined early Christianity.Far more than a suppressed artifact of antiquity, Antitheses delves deeply into the philosophical problem of evil, the nature of divine justice, and the true character of the Divine. It asks challenging questions about biblical consistency that readers and theologians still wrestle with today. What You'll Discover in This Modern Translation: - The Radical Separation of Two Gods - Explore Marcion's central thesis contrasting the stern Demiurge of the Old Testament with the loving Father of the New Testament.- The Catalyst for the Christian Bible - Understand how this exact forbidden text forced early orthodox leaders to establish the first official biblical canon.- The Roots of Gnostic Christianity - Dive deep into the philosophical and spiritual movement that challenged mainstream theology and offered an alternative path to salvation.- A Masterclass in Early Theological Debate - Follow the intense arguments, contradictions, and profound scriptural analyses that threatened to tear the early Church apart.- A Window into Suppressed History - Gain vital insight into the lost voices of early Christianity and the diverse beliefs that flourished before orthodoxy was solidified.Whether you are seeking a deeper understanding of religious history, exploring the origins of Gnostic thought, or looking to challenge your own perspectives on ancient scriptures, the Antitheses provides a captivating and essential journey. Can an ancient, forbidden text change the way we understand the origins of faith Get your copy today and embark on a fascinating journey into the heart of early Christianity's greatest controversy.
