Charlie Mortimer and Nick Frobisher met at university and soon became best friends. But after university, life intervened and they lost touch for years. With the advent of social media platforms, Nicholas Frobisher located Charlie and they reconnected and then met in person.
But Nicholas had just lost his father, and that bereavement stirred up feelings he had not addressed at the time of his mother's death. For his part, Charlie was a successful writer but lived a circumscribed life, carefully managing every aspect to make sure he never suffered or that his world was never upset or challenged. He believed this was the way to live.
On the spur of the moment, Nick Frobisher invited Charlie to accompany him on something of a pilgrimage to the Amalfi Coast, in Naples, Italy, a place Nick frequented with his wealthy parents when he was a young boy.
But the two friends encounter far more than they had bargained for as ancient legends take on life once more.
