Hypertension is one of the salient diseases in the Philippines today. As stated by the Department of Health website, in 2012, the leading cause of mortality rate in the Philippines is caused by Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) which is the result of undiagnosed and unmanaged cases of hypertension. Philippine Statistics Office conducted a study in 2018 and found out that CVD was the top leading cause of death with 74, 134 or 12.7 percent of the total respondents. According to Dzudie, et.al in 2017, people with hypertension still continue to live sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle. Many of those affected are from the low-income communities because of lack of access to healthcare services, less health education drive on the modifiable factors of hypertension like lifestyle changes (e.g. cutting on salty foods, reducing weight, minimizing alcohol consumption and avoiding smoking), and the difficulty in the procurement of hypertensive medications due to the distance of the pharmacies and health centers and the high price of these maintenance medications.Effective health teaching instruction requires a comprehension of the elements which underlie an individual's behavior. The BASNEF Model is an improved way to deal with understanding behavior, which is based on Value Expectancy Theory. This model holds that individuals will possibly play out a given behavior on the chance that they themselves see that it will give benefits as per their impression of their circumstance and requirements. Considering the issue above, the author addressed a lifestyle intervention program manual in the management of hypertension.
