They were on their way home after delivering the gifts to Nancy’s mother. During a terrible blizzard on their way home through Logan Canyon, Utah, 34-year-old Nancy and her 16-year-old daughter, Cindy, are involved in a tragic crash. As the car strikes a guardrail post, the door flies open and Cindy tumbles out onto the edge of the highway without her mother’s knowledge. The car, with Nancy aboard tumbles down through the deep snow into the bottom of the canyon next to the river. Nancy is unconscious. Later, Cindy wakes up in the shrieking blizzard, not knowing or understanding what happened. Eventually she struggles to her feet and starts walking along the edge of the road. As the wind howls through the trees, the snow, so thick and blinding, she struggles along. Cindy blinks away the blood, now oozing from the gash on her scalp and creeping down her face as she staggers forward through the blinding snow. A short time later, she is picked up by a man and a woman who, earlier that morning, had robbed a bank in Kemmerer, Wyoming. They discover a bleeding, semi-conscious girl dressed in an expensive mink coat and clothes. They learn that she has amnesia and remembers nothing. Upon evaluating the expensive clothes, they decide to hold her for ransom. Harvey, the husband and father, along with a neighbor who is a highway patrolman, decide to go looking for the missing car. Through the blinding blizzard they search but can see nothing. But after the storm the next day they resume the search and eventually discover the car in the bottom of the canyon and rescue Nancy who is at death’s door. They discover that Cindy is missing. They spend an exhaustive two weeks with the help of their church and bishop to locate Cindy. Through the deep snow and along the road with probing sticks and in the river they search. It is a total mystery as to what happened to Cindy, with not a thread of success.
