As I wrote above: in addition to the main text, the book includes two appendices, one of which is the major protagonist’s life story in her own words and the other of which is a study guide for comparing the main text and the protagonist’s life story. I am not aware of any similar texts in anthropology or related fields. This makes the book very attractive for instructors of undergraduate students who wish to foster discussions about anthropological research, voice, genre and more. Let me stress again that this also means that it is essential to release a paperback edition. The book uses suspenseful storytelling and focuses on in-depth personal material to enhance readers’ understanding of key academic issues. This makes the book ideal for undergraduate courses as well as accessible to a wider audience interested in Turkey, Germany or Europe. The main protagonist’s story is a story of everyday acts of courage and commitment, of forgiveness, trust, and risk that will touch everyone, even non-specialist readers. Theoretically, the book is among the first to explore ethics in migration contexts.
