Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

David Parlett (author) is a former teacher and technical writer. He has been a freelance games inventor and writer for over 40 years. His now classic board game Hare & Tortoise has won many international awards and he is a visiting professor in board games design at the University of Suffolk. But he is best known for his research into card games, especially for his ground-breaking Oxford History of Card Games and the encyclopaedic Penguin Book of Card Games. Besides inventing card games, he is often called upon to advise on the staging of historic card games in lm and TV productions, such as Downton Abbey and Poldark. Edward Copisarow (foreword) is one of Europe’s leading playing-card collectors and historians. As well as writing and contributing to many publications on the history of playing cards and board games, he is a member of the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards, an organisation that was founded in the Middle Ages when playing cards would have been the sole source of entertainment for the population. His extensive collection of playing cards includes a deck that is over 400 years old, and his knowledge of the rules of hundreds of card games, old and new, is unsurpassed.
