Karla Zimmerman vive en Chicago, donde come rosquillas, grita en los bares y escribiendo en libros, revistas y webs. Tras obtener su licenciatura universitaria en Chicago, Sara Benson subió a un avión rumbo a California con una maleta y solo 100 US$ en el bolsillo. Aterrizó en San Francisco y hoy vive en Oakland, al otro lado de la bahía. También pasó tres años viviendo en Japón, tras lo cual viajó por Asia y el Pacífico antes de regresar a EE UU, donde ha trabajado de profesora, periodista, enfermera y guardabosques de parque nacional.
