Inhaltsangabe

IN A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN! Relive the best Roy of the Rovers stories from the 1970s in this exciting anthology of reprinted classic strips, celebrating over 65 years of the iconic football comic.

Such was the popularity of Roy Race and the mighty Melchester Rovers in Tiger, that on 25th September 1976, a brand new comic titled Roy of the Rovers launched! It was a golden era for football and the strip. Melchester Rovers had a strong team during the latter half of the 70s, reaching a European Cup Final in ’78 and the UEFA Cup in ‘79. It was a time in which the team looked for new talent from overseas and managed to land Varagosa’s greatest player, Paco Diaz. For Roy Race there were several professional and personal triumphs, including a brief stint at managing the England team and the birth of his twins. From becoming a parent to playing alongside Trevor Francis and Malcolm MacDonald, Roy Race and the Rovers continue to strike gold!

Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

David Sque studied at Bournemouth Art College and got his National Diploma in Art and Design. He started working for IPC in the 60s - one of his earliest strips being The Skids Kids - a sports strip in the kids' humour title, Buster. He defined the 'modern day' look of Roy Race in the Roy of the Rovers comic during the 70s, and continued to draw it until August 1986. While concentrating on his fine art, David still kept a hand in football comic art, illustrating some Scorer strips in the Daily Mirror newspaper. In 2020 he returned to familiar territory, becoming the new artist on the rebooted Roy of the Rovers.

Tom Tully is one the most prolific writers ever to grace British comics, with four decades of work ranging from Heros the Spartan in the original Eagle, Mytek the Mighty (Valiant & Vulcan) and The Steel Claw (Valiant & Vulcan), Adam Eterno (Thunder), Johnny Red (Battle), Harlem Heroes (2000 AD), The Leopard from Lime Street (Buster) and Roy of the Rovers (Tiger), the strip he worked on longer than any other writer.
