This new 2nd edition of the Databook of Curatives and Crosslinkers provides increased coverage of the latest curatives and crosslinkers products data. It includes a detailed review and evaluation of these product categories with key considerations, benefits and applications highlighted.

 

Curatives and crosslinkers form a group of additives necessary to process thermoset, but are also used in the modification of thermoplastics. Fifty-seven groups of curatives/crosslinkers are included in the Databook of Curatives and Crosslinkers. They include the following chemical groups of additives: acids, acrylamides, aldehydes, amides, amidoamines, amines, anhydrides, aziridines, bismaleimides, blocked isocyanates, borates, carbamides, carbodiimides, cyanamides, diols, epoxy-functionalized polymers, etheramines, glutarates, graphene oxide derivatives, hydantoin glycols, hydrazides, hydrylamines, hyperbranched polymers, imidazoles, isocyanates, isocyanurates, maleimides, melamines, Mannich bases, methacryloyl chitosan, methyl-vinyl silicone rubber, novolacs, peroxides, peroxyketals, phenalkamine, phenols, phenolic novolacs, phenylacetophenones, phosphonium bromides, polyamides, polyamidoamines, polyamines, polycarbamides, polyetheramines, polyisocyanates, polyols, silanes, silicones, siloxane copolymers, sulfones, thioglycolic acids, thiols, titanates, triazine novolacs, urea resins, and ziconium derivatives. In total, 432 additives are included in the book.

 

The additives discussed in the book have been suggested for use in 68 polymers and rubbers, as well as in 110 groups of products.

 

The data for each curative/crosslinker are presented in a separate table. The information in the table is divided into five sections, including General, Physical properties, Health & safety, Ecological, and Use. The contents of these five sections are given below.

 


The above information is beneficial if compiled for all additives in a comparable format. Therefore, we use the same set of units to achieve the compatibility of data. At the same time, data can only be made available if they are provided by the manufacturing companies, which is frequently not a prevalent case.

 

The data included in the Databook of Curatives and Crosslinkers represent significant suppliers and are based on the most recent available information regarding additives selection. Examples of applications are also discussed.

 

Four indices have been generated to improve navigation throughout the book, as follows. The index of curative names is placed at the beginning of the book. Indices of the chemical composition of curatives/crosslinkers, their application for different polymers, and product applications can be found at the end of the book.

 

In addition to this book, which contains data on commercial additives, the Handbook of Curatives and Crosslinkers was published at the same time. The book includes information on the mechanisms of action of these additives, methods of their use, their effects on the properties of transformed products, their applications, and many other fundamental aspects related to this group of additives.

Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

Malgorzata Hanson is a Teaching Associate in the Department of Mathematics at Ohio University. She studied mathematics (major) and chemistry (minor) at Ohio University in Athens Ohio (including B.Sc. and MSc. programs in Mathematics and Computer Science). She was a teaching associate in the Department of Mathematics, Ohio University and a research assistant in the University of Ife studying polymer additives. Malgorzata is fluent in many computer applications and programming languages, such as IBM PC, dBase III+, DB2 database, DMS database, Lotus 123, Cobol, Unisys, VSAM, CICS, OASIS, and several others. She has her own company involved in projects for many customers including ChemTec Laboratories, Bank of Montreal, Honda, Sears, John Hancock, Hudson’s Bay and some others.

Anna Wypych studied chemical engineering and polymer chemistry and obtained an M.Sc in chemical engineering. Her professional expertise includes both teaching and research & development. She specializes in polymer additives for PVC and other polymers, and evaluates their effect on health and environment.
