Inhaltsangabe

A remarkable theological vision of the universe as a living, inhabited creation. In Earths in Our Solar System Which Are Called Planets and Earths in the Starry Heaven Their Inhabitants, and the Spirits and Angels There by Emanuel Swedenborg, the author presents a series of accounts describing the spiritual and human inhabitants of the planets within our solar system, as well as worlds beyond the visible heavens. Drawing on what he describes as firsthand spiritual experiences, Swedenborg offers detailed portrayals of the character, customs, and spiritual conditions of these distant beings. Rather than treating the cosmos as empty or lifeless, the work proposes a universe filled with inhabited "earths," each forming part of a greater divine order. Swedenborg connects these accounts to a broader theological framework, suggesting that all worlds-material and spiritual alike-are linked through their relationship to the Divine and contribute to the fullness of creation. Alongside descriptions of planetary inhabitants, the text explores the roles of spirits and angels, presenting a hierarchical vision of existence in which the spiritual realm interacts with and influences the natural world. Throughout, Swedenborg seeks to illustrate how life beyond Earth reflects deeper spiritual truths and the universal reach of divine purpose. Part visionary narrative, part theological reflection, this work offers a distinctive and influential perspective on the nature of the cosmos-one in which the physical and spiritual are inseparably joined.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Emanuel Swedenborg was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, theologian, and religious visionary whose writings shaped one of the most unusual bodies of Christian thought in the eighteenth century. Born in Stockholm in 1688, he first became known for work in science, engineering, mining, anatomy, and natural philosophy before turning increasingly toward theology and spiritual experience. After what he described as a spiritual awakening, Swedenborg devoted the rest of his life to interpreting Scripture, describing the spiritual world, and developing a vast theological system centered on divine love, divine wisdom, human freedom, correspondence, heaven and hell, and the inward meaning of Christian revelation. His writings influenced religious thinkers, mystics, reformers, poets, philosophers, and later movements interested in visionary Christianity and spiritual psychology. Britannica notes that Swedenborg devoted enormous energy to interpreting the Bible and relating his claimed experiences of the world of spirits and angels.
