Ted Thompson, Bedford-born, recalls some of this meandering footsteps (through life). Surviving early days as the only boy in a family of six sisters, he also emerged safely from the debris of the 1946 explosion of the Ammunition Depot in Burnside (Bedford), passed unscathed , during his seafaring days among the icebergs of the North Atlantic , weathered eight years of university life in Halifax and forty-one years as a minister of the United Church of Canada. During his ministry he shared life’s joys and sorrows with hundreds of people. Geneology took over when Ted Thompson investigated his forebears in Scotland and Ireland and discovered the Highlanders in Sutherlandshire and the ‘Scots in Ireland,’ and the Ulster Scots of Collon, Ireland. The result was an enhanced self awareness, that he shares with his forebears both a love of life in Canada, and the wistful hope ‘that the best is yet to be.’
