“My whole life I though I was the star of an overly earnest romance movie, and it turns out I was in a goddamned buddy comedy all along.” – John Green

No self-belief, no direction, a job she hates and the love life comparable to that of a dead fish.

At forty, Hannah, a self-proclaimed ‘red-hot mess’, lives alone wandering through life with more than a little help from booze, and prescription medication. If that isn’t enough, she’s navigating the joys of an overbearing mother pushing for Hannah to sort herself out and find that perfect son-in-law.

Instead, she has an acceptance of mediocrity and loneliness, choosing to find solace in the world of Hollywood and one-night stands. That is until serendipity brings beautiful, mysterious and seemingly perfect Katie into her life.

A fast friendship is formed over nights out, wine and shared demons. Despite a renewed love of life, this new relationship forces Hannah to confront all that she knows about herself, to re-visit her past and contemplate her place in the word.

Those Hollywood happy endings may not be all that they seem…
