“An expansive trip into our future and the technology to take us there.”
―Tom Wheeler, author, From Gutenberg to Google: The History of Our Future; former chairman, Federal Communications Commission
London, 2045: Technology has changed everything from travel and work to government and even personal relationships. Society is segregated between knowledge workers who enjoy all the benefits of life in the new digital cities and the majority of the population, so-called Zeroids, who have been rendered economically superfluous.
Mikhail Ivanovich Vasiliev is a model “high value citizen,” a top AI engineering architect for Lloyd’s Taiping Group, the world’s premier financial services company. He leads a perfectly ordered life, with his routine optimized by his team of AI agents, but as he nears the creation of the world’s first sentient being, forces converge seeking to prevent or exploit the advent of this new technology. Mikhail and his cohorts and enemies alike struggle with the invention’s potential intellectual, philosophical, and spiritual impacts and the possibility of losing control of their lives to their own creations.
This gripping narrative is followed by an overview of the real-life technologies that play crucial roles in the story and that are shaping our world today. As one of today's leading experts on technology innovation, Michael Steep is uniquely qualified to describe the impact of unchecked technology development currently underway.

The book you are about to read not only describes the complicated, chaotic, potentially threatening, world that waits for us just around the corner, it exhibits that future. That is to say, in its design, it is a chimaera, this book is an unlikely yet wonderful hybrid between a science fiction thriller and a non-fiction scientific paper. When I first opened The First Light of Day, I was skeptical. How could such a book possibly work? But as I read its compelling narrative I understood: this is the only way this complex subject could be approached.

Zustand: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Seiten: 278 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | FIRST LIGHT OF DAY is two things. First, it's a compelling story wrapped around a disquieting look at life in 2045 in the aftermath of a technology revolution that profoundly changed the nature of society. Second, it's a non-fiction look at the technologies available today that make this revolution possible and even probable. In the fictional, part one of the book, the world is on the brink of creating the first truly sentient machines. Technology has changed everything from travel and work to government and even personal relationships. Most developed societies are segregated between high-end knowledge workers who enjoy all the benefits of life in the new digital cities and the majority of the population who have been rendered economically superfluous. The characters' inner struggles are intellectual, philosophical and spiritual-and their time before losing control of their lives to their own creations is running out. The second non-fiction part of the book provides an overview of the 10 categories of technology that play crucial roles in the story and are shaping our world today. The author, Michael J.T. Steep, is the founder and executive director of the Disruptive Technology and Digital Cities Program at Stanford University School of Engineering and one of today's leading experts on technology innovation. He wrote this book as a cautionary tale for anyone who wonders about the impact of unchecked technology development currently underway. Artikel-Nr. 36019876/1

hardcover. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only. Artikel-Nr.
