How Do We Avoid Godly Curses and experience His kindness, mercy and love? If we knew how to avoid God's Curses, Plagues and Punishments, there would be no need for a Spiritual Survival Guide (SSG). So, let’s discover what God finds individually and collectively "detestable." By being informed we can set course corrections. God's merciful and loving admonitions will provide a proactive approach to survival in our own personal "boot camp." But, whether we have faith or no faith, if we continue engaging in specific activities, which are spelled out in the SSG, we will at some point likely experience physical suffering or even death, linked to some actions. Unfortunately, some attitudes and actions are due to limited ignorance of specific rules. And some of us are unwilling to come to grips with our lack of knowledge, in some critical areas. Are we in partial denial as we don’t see those rules as relevant? By collecting the admonitions, we have a partial glimpse into God's unlimited kindness and mercy. However, there is a precondition to receiving immediate forgiveness for our deplorable activities. It is more important than money, advanced degrees or significant achievements. It is humility. So how do we evolve from being somewhat patronizing or arrogant at times, to becoming more humble? If we directly ask God for humility, Watch Out. He may send it in the form of trouble. We may have to brace ourselves, for humiliation which may arrive in a variety of ways. We can also humble ourselves by focusing on Christ's physical suffering, He sustained on the Cross. Humility works with God. An objective, realistic perspective of ourselves facilitates our humility (What do we really bring to the table?) In addition, this SSG asks the question, are hard knocks or physical trials always good for us? There is still considerable room for argument over the question: "Should we strive to avoid trials or calmly accept them as a productive, realistic part of our experience?" Do all trials, if they don’t kill us, make us stronger? Not always, some STD's leave us with a chronic condition. We have all touched the stove, even though we were told the stove would burn us. On the other hand, isn’t not doing something, preferable to doing something in disobedience and then experiencing the resulting illness and grief? The admonitions reveal, what He wants to see in us individually and what activities are questionable. He provides these suggestions wrapped in proverbs and parables, revealing clear applications for our benefit and understanding. A few examples of His guidance include:1. Stop Cursing Him. What is the upside for us in continuing the activity? 2. Refrain from slandering or testifying falsely in court against someone else. Why make unnecessary enemies, particularly if they are powerful and capable of revenge. 3. Honor our father and mother (if appropriate to our situation) if we want a long life. 4. Refrain from coveting another man's wife or his possessions. God sent great plagues because Pharaoh coveted Abram's wife. This SSG's purpose is to decrease the number of bruises we receive due to our ignorance and rebellious behavior. It also helps us eliminate those activities, which are disturbing to God. So what does God desire from Us? He wants us to love him. He wants to become our loving merciful Father. God has no higher desire and no greater happiness, other than when He forgives a soul. He has endless mercy and will never reject a soul who humbly comes and asks for forgiveness regardless of his or her history. In summary, as a pebble when dropped into a bucket of water pushes some of the water out of the bucket, Christ can progressively replace our old habits and lifestyle with His character, filling our lives with more of His loving kindness and less of our personal guilt. The Holy Spirit will renew us continually. Go to Him and ask for help. This will be a new beginning!
