‘Adventures in Technology’ is a journey down memory lane visiting some of the more interesting, sometimes dangerous, adventures in technology practised or performed by four generations of the author’s family.The book highlights the vast changes that have taken place in theapplication of technology in a domestic setting during a period of only eighty years. These transformations have affected all our lives, perhaps not always for the better. Beginning in the 1930s the technology then in use in the small house in Ireland is described and its context examined. The onerous daily work is contrasted with the almost idyllic surroundings in those pleasant rural areas. The scene shifts from the simple life of that era through to where we are today, in the digital age. On the way the knowledge, DIY andengineering skills that have been passed down are considered. It is hoped that the vagaries, pitfalls and sometimes sheer foolhardiness of these adventures will be of interest and entertainment.
