June is the story of recovery. The story of an addict who is making her way back into the world. I wanted to show how difficult it is even with the best of support. June is a composite of two women I’ve met while in Salt Lake. One was the victim of familial sex abuse. The other, I knew only briefly, had/has a drug problem. She has been in and out of treatment. She knows what she must do, but can’t break free of her addiction.

Both are smart, attractive, and shouldn’t be suffering the way they were/are. June is an attempt to show the difficulty the addict faces after they are ready to face life again.
June is fictional. She exists only in my mind. Yet she is a cautionary tale. This could happen to your sister, daughter, or you. Homelessness is not far away from any of our doorsteps.

We must do more. While June is not intended as a how-to, I hope it will provide some insight. We must do more. No more Junes.
