Early in her career a somewhat frazzled and disillusioned colleague remarked that Laura was “doing too much” and said snidely “Aren’t you just Sally Social Worker?” Laura embraced this and uses this character to describe us hopeful yet realistic, compassionate yet aware, patient yet frank professionals as Sally Social Workers. This helps her see the humor in situations, brings a shared smile between social workers, and shows others what we do. Laura uses the Sally cartoon in talks about handling challenging people and situations, developing self compassion, and practicing self care. Laura has been a social worker since 1997 and couldn’t have done it without great support & humor! She enjoys working part time in the ER and seeing adults in her private practice.
