1996 As friends and growing up together, Robert Nance and Max Drew are both very ambitious and ruthless. They both become doctors, Nance a senior medical consultant and CEO of Salta Hospital and Drew the local coroner, both in Salta, a fictitious town near Saltash, Cornwall, England Peter Wyatt is a private investigator who takes on a case to find Gabriel Smith, a young man who has been missing for several months. His investigations take him to Cornwall where he meets Polly, a doctor who works alongside Robert Nance. Peter ascertains that Gabriel has died, but where is his body? It also comes to his knowledge that tourists are being knocked down and their bodies taken to Hatton Centre Research Centre which is being overseen by Dr Robert Nance. Is this where Gabriel's body has been taken? Polly notices abnormal practices are being carried out on the wards of Salta Hospital, and she and Peter wonder if there is a connection between these, the running down of innocent people and the research centre. Why is Max Drew's brother, Stan, often walking around the hospital, and why does Peter follow him to Brittany Ferry, Plymouth to France? Peter and Polly investigate, is all as it should be, or is there something sinister occurring?
