This collection is dedicated to my Butterfly. We met in 2007. She is from the country of Moldova and was visiting California as part of a work travel program. We were both in serious relationships with other people then, and we were seemingly destined to be nothing more than friends. But she made an immediate impression upon me with her Butterfly smile and her blue lagoon eyes. Her warmth made me feel good whenever she was around me. It was a warmth I would never forget.

Then she returned to the United States in 2011. We were both still recovering from difficult breakups and not really looking to start a new relationship. This time, she was excited to spend the year in New York City and she shared this great news with me. The thought of her return lifted my heart. I wanted to see her again, if only to feel her warmth one more time. She was given three days off from work to visit with me in California. But when it was time to her to fly back to New York, Hurricane Irene devastated the East Coast. All flights into New York City were cancelled for an entire week. During that time, we danced to someone else's dance at a winery in Temecula, rode golf carts around Catalina Island, and walked hand in hand around Big Bear Lake. When the moment came for her to leave my side, that was when I had to learn How to Love A Butterly.
