Inhaltsangabe

When trouble comes to the City of Nightmares, one man finds himself in the midst of conspiracy, treason and corruption, and must rely on his instincts, his knowledge and his luck to survive. Max Urqhart is a private eye with a troubled past and a dark secret, walking the mean streets of a City full of intriegue and amorality, a City continually locked in a perpetual war with its neighbour, which seeks its destruction by any means, a City that stands amidst the hostile terrain of an alien planet whose history is a capital offence to know, a City bound to the mysterious Flaktower that guards its centre but few acknowledge. A missing-person case leads Urqhart into the dark waters of a City so twisted that studying history can be a criminal offence and dispair, violence and corruption are always around the corner. His case leads him along a dark path through the City's underside, into the hostile alienness of the Demon Earth outside the City Limits and struggling with confronting the authorities, the enemies of the City, the dark heart of the City itself and the struggle between his own secrets and his conscience. In the pursuit of his case, he finds himself hiding as a terrorist and having to use every trick, every connection and every instinct to achieve his aim and survive, when everything seems too much and he finds himself having to fight for the City whose streets he walks but which he quietly hates. Some mean streets are tough on a private eye...
