Inhaltsangabe

Defiantly a book for those serious about being successful. Written as a self-help book for parents of children with dyslexia and for adults with moderate to severe dyslexics or what’s sometimes lovingly termed the Reading Disorder. It can also be used as an resource for those in education that work with children or adults with dyslexia. What I offer is hope that with a resourceful attitude and determination you can still achieve great thing even as a dyslexic person. I start with the definition and origin of a word that has both described me and often confused me. Dyslexia dɪsˈlɛksɪə/ Noun: dyslexia 1. Is a general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols; however that does not affect a person’s general intelligence. Origin In late 19th century: coined in German from dys- ‘difficult’ + Greek lexis ‘speech’ (apparently by confusion of Greek legein ‘to speak’ and Latin legere ‘to read’). Notable people with dyslexia are: Agatha Christie “Mystery Writer, Playwright” Writing and spelling were always terribly difficult for me. My letters were without originality. I was…an extraordinarily bad speller and have remained so. Dame Agatha Christie was a prolific mystery writer and playwright. She is best known for the 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections that she wrote featuring the investigative work characters such as Hercule Poirot, Jane Marple, and Parker Pyne. She also wrote the world’s longest-running play, a murder mystery, The Mousetrap. In 1971 she was made a Dame for her contribution to literature. Keira Knightley (Actress) After Keira Knightley was diagnosed with dyslexia at age 6, she used her love of acting to help motivate her to read. Knightley struck a deal with her parents that if she worked on her reading every day, they would agree to hire her an agent. The Pirates of the Caribbean star made good on her half of the bargain, using movie scripts to practice reading. She went on to become one of Hollywood’s highest-earning actresses. Cher (Singer/songwriter) Cher is an Academy Award‒winning actress and Grammy-winning singer. But she struggled in school with undiagnosed learning issues. “I couldn’t read quickly enough to get all my homework done and for me, math was like trying to understand Sanskrit,” she wrote in her autobiography The First Time. “The only way I learned was by listening to the teachers in my classroom.” She didn’t find out about her dyslexia until years later when she took her child to get evaluated for learning and attention issues. Sandra Rigobert BA (Hons) PGCE. Author and Business owner. Public Speaker and activist. Sandra is the Founder of A 1 TRIBE LIMITED a Community Wellness Program that engages with Children and Adults with Special Needs, Parents and Educators. We Facilitate projects and seminars that support and add value to participant’s environment and Mind-set using Home Economics and Enterprise philosophies and skills. Sandra is quoted as saying “I left school in the UK in the 20th century at nearly 17 year of age only able to read at a reception school age”. Typically some of the dyslexic people in the public eye did not find out they had dyslexia until they were adults. However what this shows and in my case it does not have to stop you from challenging yourself in the areas you may need support in. A point to note is "Ignorance often leads to failure" and not knowing what to do is no excuse. Go and find the right answer to help yourself.
