After being made penniless and homeless by the grind of living, seventy-seven year-old Mathew Arnold leaves a suicide note on his Facebook page and then sets off to London to hand over his last teabag to the prime minister. “Who is to blame then? Who are the thieves and what are they doing with all that ‘swag’?”
On his way he meets fifteen year-old Alison, a homeless girl from Yorkshire, and together they strike up an unlikely friendship as they travel to the capital.“Am only fifteen, ya kno’? Am not three-‘undred and fifty like you are! Blimey!”
Along the journey they meet a host of different characters who help them on their road and whose lives they touch deeply with their own quest and brands of wisdom and humour.
But very soon the entire world finds out about Mathew Arnold, The Freedom Walker, and a following of thousands soon builds up, drawing attention from the highest points of government and setting in motion the hunt for Mathew and Alison.
The Last Teabag is a satirical look at the state of the country through the eyes of the homeless and the dislocated. You will laugh and cry while you follow Mathew and his guide-cum-bodyguard Alison as they outwit the country’s constabulary as well as Mi6 and the prime minister.
