Mr. James Stultz has worked for decades, preserving Mount Rose Cemetery. Thus, Gary Rider wanted to make the community more aware of the famous people who are buried there. Mr. Stultz has been attempting to place the cemetery on the National Historic Register, but to date has not accomplished that task. To do so is a daunting effort that requires much corroboration of historic fact.In August of 2019, he conducted a tour and 62 people attended the event. At that time Roseanna Dakan Keller and Gary Rider had been working on this book for several months. We were very happy to learn that so many people wanted to know about this historic cemetery.Of course, if you are writing about historic cemeteries, you must include, First Street, Brookside and Greenlawn cemeteries. These cemeteries also contain individuals who helped shape our community, in politics, business, medicine, faith, education, and industry.When we started to gather information on First Street Cemetery, we discovered that little can be found on these early individuals that are buried there. It is a shame that we have lost so much knowledge of our early forebearers.This volume is an effort to show some of these early leaders and everyday people who made Moundsville the wonderful small community that it is today.Obviously we can’t cover all of the people who have contributed to our history in this work. But we give you a sampling of how rich in history these cemeteries are today. Our forebearers must not be forgotten, as they all made us who we are today.
