"Distilled" is a collection of social prism, a potpourri, a therapeutic social clinic. Poem after poem, the persona goes into private and public spaces to identify with the mother gene; at times it is the birthplace of the poet’s home country. In the collection, motherhood is the central metaphor and the placement or displacement of its virtue. However, like all debut collections, there is a celebration of themes, as one poem sings in “Good to Grow.”
