Remembering Delaware - Softcover

Dela-where? is a joke that all too often hits a nerve with residents of the second smallest state, but Dela-here is a great place to be—amid all the big cities of the Eastern Seaboard but just far enough from the beaten path to have its own unique identity. With a selection of fine historic images from her best-selling book, Historic Photos of Delaware, Ellen Rendle provides a valuable and revealing historical retrospective on the growth and development of Delaware in Remembering Delaware. This collection of photographs celebrates the First State’s history with an eclectic mix of rural and urban, from the rolling hills and swift streams of New Castle County to the flat and rich agricultural lands of Kent and Sussex counties to the enduring beauty of the beach communities of the Atlantic Coast. Subjects range from horse-drawn farm machinery and black powder wagons to the celebratory openings of the Delaware Memorial and the Chesapeake Bay bridges. Years of growth and growing pains are buoyed with proud and happy moments at ship christenings, the Delmarva Chicken Festival, and cultural achievements. A tour of Remembering Delaware is sure to provide an illuminating and fond journey back into the state’s rich history.
