Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

Hannah Fay lives right next door to fairies! Well, they actually live in her backyard, in the many fairy houses that she built for them. When she’s not writing books for children, Hannah loves spending time tending to her garden full of mushrooms and milkweed.

Mag Takac has illustrated over a dozen books published in Europe. When she’s not busy drawing, Mag can be found taking care of her garden, baking croissants, and playing music. She lives with her grumpy cats, noisy dogs, tiny humans, and loving husband.

CHAPTER 1 Rise and Flutter

  Flutterfly woke up with a smile, and a sunbeam tickling her nose. She always woke up with a smile, but today it was extra bright!

  She bounced out of bed and flew around her new room. The walls were already covered with posters.

  Flutterfly stopped in front of the poster hanging above her bed.

    “Fairy-tastic!” Flutterfly cried.

  It wasn’t a dream. She really was a Fairy Scout! Living in a real Fairy Scout clubhouse!

  Flutterfly zoomed outside. The waterfall was flowing and the rainbow was glowing.

    “Morning, sleepyhead,” said Rain. Her full name was Rainbow Sunshine, but Flutterfly thought her nickname matched her way better.

  “Want a mud pie for breakfast?” Rain asked, holding up a gloppy handful of mud. Flutterfly giggled and shook her head.

       Bloom Feathers was playing tag with some grasshoppers.

  “Come join our game!” he called out to Flutterfly.

  But Jewel Rose put down her watering can and shook her head.

  “I don’t want to be late to Fairy Scouts,” she said. “Today is going to be the most magical day!”

  “MORE magical than it’s already been?” asked Flutterfly.

  Since joining the Fairy Scouts, she had gotten her very own fairy dust pouch and earned her first scout charm. She even rode a rainbow through the sky! How could it get any more magical than that?

    Maybe Jewel knew something Flutterfly didn’t. After all, Jewel’s sister, Starlight Rose, was the most famous Fairy Scout in history.

  “Yes! Today will be even more magical,” Jewel replied. “DUST you wait and see.”

  Flutterfly, Rain, and Bloom looked at one another.

  “Dust?!” they repeated.

    Earning a charm had put the first sprinkle of magic into their fairy dust pouches. Would they learn how to use it today?

  Flutterfly’s antennae danced in the fresh air. The day smelled like lollipops, peaches, and possibility!

  “I can’t wait!” she said. “Off to the tree house we go!”
