She is also in an abusive relationship and finds his friendship strengthens her. Together they develop a better sense of self and face their problems. The book explores the particular prejudices and lifestyles of 1964 in Sydney. It also looks at families and how they shape the future generations.

Merrill Patton has had a career working with people with disabilities. She is passionate about the ongoing journey to see the rights of people with a disability enacted in Australia. Merrill has a strong belief in social justice and equality for all. Her family is very important to Merrill who is a wife of 42 years and a mother to three amazing people, grandmother to four perfect blossoms. Her days are filled with gratitude for the life she has lived and the people she has known.
