His business and family thrive and blossom in the early years of the new South Africa and their future boasts exceptional promise. This promise gradually deteriorates as corruption becomes endemic resulting in uncontrolled crime, erosion of social services and rampant unemployment. The imprisonment of his son, the looming failure of his business and the impending death of his daughter sees his family and life destroyed. Cyprian and the men in the tavern he frequents are provoked into taking the law into their own hands resulting in violent attacks on foreign nationals. While these men are perceived to be the cause of xenophobia, what, in truth, is the root cause of extreme hatred towards foreigners?
