Fast Phil is a real pheasant who lives in Kristin Jackson’s woods. Phil is not like other pheasants. He likes to wait at the bottom of Kristin’s driveway for someone to get home. Then he jumps out of cover and races the car or truck up the hill to the house. Illustrator and photographer JoAnne Pionessa’s work often features the rural landscapes of western New York State, as well as the wildlife and birds, including the pheasants, right outside her window.

JoAnne Pionessa is a photographer and artist with roots in western New York. She says, "Sharing my photos leaves me feeling vulnerable. I lose my breath in anticipation of the reaction. Photography and art has opened the door to my world-a door that was previously closed and locked."
