Robert Marcum is a retired professor of religion. He taught seminary and institute for seventeen years before being hired at Ricks College and BYU-Idaho, where he taught until retirement in 2008. He has a bachelors degree in history from BYU with a minor in art, and a masters degree from Idaho State University.His interest in writing began at a young age, but it was in 1989, after taking a creative writing class from a fellow professor at Ricks College, that he created his first manuscript for publication. Since then he has written twelve novels in both the action-adventure and historical fiction genres for the LDS market.His wife, Janene, an English teacher by trade, does her best to correct his grammar and strengthen his stories with her tireless edits and counsel while his eight children and many of their twenty grandchildren are among his most avid cheerleaders. Robert loves history and has traveled extensively to Europe, the Middle East, and around the United States in an effort to enhance his novels with the important detail that only visual presence can offer.In preparing for the Nation Divided series, he has read more than twenty books on the Civil War, including personal journals of those who participated, in order to give readers the most vivid and
