Darla L. Henry is executive director of Darla L Henry & Associates whose mission is to further best practices for children, youth and families experiencing the traumas of loss and rebuilding connections in the safety of relationships. Currently, Darla provides training and consultation on the 3-5-7 Model and Training of Trainers with content support for implementation and region specific curriculum development of the 3-5-7 Model. A 40 year social work professional, Darla has provided both public and private social work services in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan, primarily in the field of child welfare. She has provided oversight for the development of child preparation practice in Pennsylvania and training and consultation, in conjunction with Family Finding and engagement, in California. Darla received her Ph.D. in social work from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, where her dissertation research was on resilience in abused children from a developmental viewpoint. Her article, “Resilience in Maltreated Children: Implications for Special Needs Adoption,” has been published in the Child Welfare Journal, September, 1999, and in Social Work Health and Mental Health Journal, May 2002. In February, 2005, her article, The 3-5-7 Model: Preparing Children for Permanency, was published in Children and Youth Services Review. She received her MSW from the University of Michigan, and her BA, in Sociology, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Currently Darla attends Unity Institute, Unity Village, Missouri, where she is enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Religious Studies program. Darla has taught at the MSW and BSW level at Temple University Harrisburg, and BSW programs at Shippensburg University and Messiah College. Darla was co-founder and co-director of Family Design Resources, Inc., and was a Best Practice and Policy Consultant for the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network. She is a trainer, keynote speaker and workshop presenter both nationally and internationally.
