Beryl Reichenberg has been an artist for many years. However, in the past four years, she has turned to writing children’s stories. “Remembering my grandfather telling us stories when we were young in an old rocking chair by the fireplace, I decided to write for my own grandchildren.” Her first book was inspired by a comment from her two-year old granddaughter, Zoe, who was afraid a blue dinosaur lurked in her closet. Other tales soon followed, inspired by her grandchildren’s comments about things that interest them. Since then, Beryl has written over 30 stories, illustrated with her drawings and photographs. She often depicts her grandchildren as characters in her books. “They love to see themselves in the stories. When they leaf through one of these books for the first time, they search eagerly to find their pictures. Other children also respond positively to pictures of real children.” In some of her books, Beryl draws animal characters or uses photographs, depending on the storyline. She travels extensively throughout the world, gleaning story ideas from other peoples and their cultures. Beryl lives in San Luis Obispo, California. She has a Master’s Degree from UCLA and taught high school in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Currently she is retired, devoting fulltime to her writing and art. She hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoys creating them.
