How do I know I have forgiven? This book will show you the objective criteria you can use to prove the level of your forgiveness. It is important that forgiveness is genuine for you to enjoy its full benefits. You will learn, for example, that what you say about the person you think you have forgiven is a gauge of your forgiveness. Other criteria are discussed and analyzed. SYNOPSES OF THE FIRST SIX CHAPTERS 1. Emotional Relief A sign of forgiveness is experiencing emotional relief from tormenting negative emotions associated with unforgiveness such as anger or restlessness. This lesson looks at the various tormentors of unforgiveness and how they disrupt our emotions. You will learn how emotional relief is a sign that you have indeed forgiven your offender. 2. How We Address Them Another way of ensuring you have forgiven those who have hurt you is by examining what you say about them. Jesus taught that what comes out of our mouths is a reflection of the contents of our heart. In this lesson, you will learn to take an objective look at how you speak of or address those you think you have forgiven. It may help determine the level of your forgiveness. Words become a marker that determines the genuineness of our forgiveness. 3. No Longer Angry - A Another sign of forgiveness this lesson discusses is anger. When forgiveness has taken place, anger finds its way out. It can never reside in the presence of forgiveness. In this lesson, you will discover how forgiveness and anger are mutually exclusive on three levels. 4. No Longer Angry - B Forgiveness reveals itself in our words and in our thoughts. Here, we want to look at the role of our actions when we claim we have forgiven. In this lesson, you will examine examples of relief from anger as a proof of forgiveness in God and in Biblical characters. 5. Forgetting Past Offenses There are several arguments about whether or not one should address past hurts. In this lesson, you will look at one of the signs that may either authenticate our forgiveness or affirm your unforgiveness of an offense. To bring up the past or to leave it alone becomes the question that this lesson addresses. 6. How We Feel in Their Presence What we see has a dramatic effect on our emotions. How you feel in the presence of the one who hurt you or how you feel when you think of them or when something reminds you of them or their offense are important aspects to examine. In this lesson, you will learn to gauge the depth of your forgiveness by analyzing the effect your offender has on your emotions.
