Summer Solutions 1st Grade Reading Comprehension is for students entering 2nd Grade. Without ongoing practice, literacy skills lag over the summer break. However, students can bridge the summer learning gap with 1st Grade Reading Comprehension. All educational standards require children leaving Grade 1 to read poetry, prose, and information texts at their level, answer questions about key details in a passage, and use phonics to decode words. Using the summer workbook, students complete 30 lessons of mixed review over a 10-week period, and this ongoing practice ensures retention of literacy skills and concepts covered in first grade. Additional skills in the workbook include using ABC order, following directions, sequencing, and building vocabulary with synonyms, antonyms, and compound words. By completing just one lesson three days a week, students enter second grade ready to begin learning new material right away.
