Summer Solutions Kindergarten Reading Comprehension is for students entering 1st Grade. Without ongoing practice, literacy skills lag over the summer break. However, students can bridge the summer learning gap with Kindergarten Reading Comprehension. All educational standards require children leaving kindergarten to demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences, recognize and produce rhyming words, use phonics to decode three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant or CVC) words, identify the short and long vowels sounds for the five major vowels, read common high-frequency words, and read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding. Using the summer workbook, students complete 30 lessons of mixed review over a 10-week period, and this ongoing practice ensures retention of literacy skills and concepts covered in kindergarten. By completing just one lesson three days a week, students enter first grade ready to begin learning new material right away.
