The valuable and comprehensive appendices Nutritional Assessment, Nutritional Requirements, and Enteral Products have been retained and updated in the new edition. Chapters new to this edition include Functional Food Ingredients: Probiotics, Prebiotics, Nutraceuticals, and Phytochemicals; Diet, Environment, and Gut Microbiota in the Metagenomic Era; Childhood Obesity Prevention; and Nutrition Support Teams The previous edition's chapter on international nutrition has been expanded into a new section on nutrition in low and middle income countries, with the following new chapters: The Nutrition Transition and Global Child Health, Infant and Young Child Feeding in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, Child Nutrition and Economic Development, Global Interventions in Child Health, and Obesity in Developing Economies.

About the Author:

Christopher Duggan, MD, MPH, the Editor in Chief of this text, is Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Center for Nutrition in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Boston Children's Hospital. He also holds the appointment of Professor in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts. John B. Watkins, MD, is Emeritus Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School's Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Boston Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Berthold Koletzko, MD, PhD, is the Head of the Division of Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine at Dr. Von Hauner Children's Hospital of the University of Munich Medical Centre in Munich, Germany.

W. Allan Walker, MD, is the Conrad Taff Professor of Nutrition and Director of the Division of Nutrition at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also a member and founder of the Mucosal Immunology and Biology Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
