Although the book has a reverence for rocks, it also writes upward to the galaxy and contemplates meditation and healing. It speaks of the winds of the spirit and understanding different tongues. It speaks of keeping the word through sculpture, poetry, and dance. It reaches down into the blue earth and up into the galaxy and feels the rhythm of the earth and the movement of dance. Nancy Baker Fate Heers Artist s Statement This recent sculpture and drawing represented in this book indicate the range and direction that my work has taken. Found forms usually mean man-made objects, but I include the stone forms I use in my pieces as found forms as well. I try to keep the qualities of the stones that attract me in tact. I am especially fond of wrought iron forms as they, from a material sense, have a simplicity and strength that relates to stone. Humor and playfulness are at times evident in my work. Many of my pieces can be manipulated and interchanged as stones are bolted to one another and, in some cases, steel springs are used as the connector. Building relationships and the association of materials and ideas plus the movability or changeability of the sculpture adds to the expressive potential of each piece. Wendel W. Heers
