Insurance Operations provides students with an overview of the industry in addition to its products and career opportunities. While building the skills needed to be financially capable, students also learn about the way insurance companies operate and the laws and regulations governing their actions.

Kathy Stokes is a communication consultant for businesses and nonprofits. She has deep background in retirement income security and financial education. Kathy has worked on these and related issues with AARP, The American Savings Education Council, the Employee Benefit Research Institute, the MetLife Mature Market Institute, the US Chamber of Commerce, the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement, and other organizations. She holds a bachelor degree in rhetoric and communication from the University of Pittsburgh and a master degree in American government from the Johns Hopkins University. Prior to launching her own firm in 2006, Kathy was on the founding team of the Brookings Institution&;s Retirement Security Project. She first entered the retirement policy arena in 1993 with the Employee Benefit Research Institute. While at EBRI, Kathy served as the first executive director of the American Savings Education Council, a coalition aimed at promoting retirement planning and saving.
