His co-authored book, The Folk Music Sourcebook, won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Music Critics Award. His recent book, Which Side Are You On? An Inside History of the Folk Music Revival, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award in non-fiction writing in 2007, and another work, The Music Business: Career Opportunities &  Self Defense.
