Thomas (speech pathology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota) presents a revised and updated edition of the 1989 text, Speech Practice Manual for Dysarthria, Apraxia and Other Disorders of Articulation: Compare and Contrast, co-written by Thomas and Robert Keith. It offers clinicians and clinical researchers a variety of versatile, flexible speech materials organized into chapters on automatic speech tasks, consonants, vowels and diphthongs, word grids, common expressions, figurative expressions, speaking with exaggerated articulatory movements, dialogues, and contrastive stress drills. Each chapter contains a description and examples of the practice material, a "disorder-specific applications" section suggesting the population to which the material may apply, possible goal areas, and suggestions for implementing and modifying the stimuli for any given client, followed by the stimuli. A final chapter explains how to use the Base-10 Response Form to organize speech therapy tasks, keep data, and analyze client performance.
