Inhaltsangabe

Inspire a love of bugs with this guided journal that teaches children to observe, record, draw, and learn about insects and other creepy-crawly creatures.

Turn every backyard search, park visit, nature walk, camping trip, or bug-watching adventure into a discovery to remember. Bug Log Kids gives children a fun, easy way to notice bugs, write about what they see, and draw their discoveries.

Designed for ages 5 to 12, this guided logbook helps kids write about beetles, butterflies, ants, spiders, worms, dragonflies, moths, and more. Each log page includes simple prompts—such as where the bug was found, what it was doing, how many legs it had, whether it had wings or antennae, what sounds it made, and what its colors and markings were—plus room for drawing or adding a photo. Along the way, young bug lovers will also find fascinating facts, hands-on activities, and suggestions for protecting bugs and their habitats.

Perfect for family time, school nature studies, backyard exploring, vacations, and other screen-free outdoor fun, Bug Log Kids by DeAnna Ortiz Brandt and Daniel P. Brandt helps children slow down, look closely, and create a one-of-a-kind keepsake worth cherishing.

Fact

Beetles are the largest group of insects, with about 400,000 different species discovered so far. In fact, they are the largest group of animals on the planet: 1 in 4 animals on Earth is a beetle. If aliens discovered Earth, they might say it was largely inhabitated by beetles, and with a small human population.

Help

Avoid Insecticides: Mosquitoes aren’t any fun, but if you “fog” your yard, you’re not just taking out mosquitoes. You’re killing all the other bugs, and it’s unhealthy for humans too.

Make Your Yard Bug-friendly: If you want to help bugs, plant a “bug” garden with your family, and you’ll soon see bees, butterflies, and more!

Don’t Squish Bugs!: If you see a bug inside, ask your parents to safely put it outside.
