"David Davis's poetry charms children and adult readers. His words, with the beautiful artwork by Chuck Galey, make Jazz Cats a unique table book and conversation piece."
-Joyce Dixon, Southern Scribe Reviews
Rock 'n' Roll Dogs, a companion book to Jazz Cats, guarantees the reader a howl of a good time.
Cool Buddy Collie strums the lead guitar,
And Puggy Sue's a singing teen-age star.
They play Memphis rock for you and me,
Tunes by Carl, the King, and Jerry Lee.
In the Fireplug doggie disco, kids are welcome to visit but not fleas, cats, vets, squares, or ticks. As stray dogs strut outside wearing leather jackets, pink toy poodles groom in the flea-powder room, the bulldog doorman checks doggie tags, and Duke, a springer spaniel, waits the tables. All dogs dance to the sounds of the Rock 'n' Roll Memphis Blues Dogs but are very careful to not step on any blue suede shoes.
This humorous story with vibrant illustrations appeals to both children and adults. The lively rhythm and colorful vocabulary encourage children to follow along with the story's repetition of objects, animals, and actions while introducing them to Rock 'n' Roll.
