Intersubjectivity has become a research field known to bring vastly different ideas together using vastly different disciplines to do so. The editors note that when this happens, ever more complex theoretical constructs emerge which can become the conceptual ground for building more general theories. Contributed by experts in philosophy, languages, psychology, sociology, clinical neurophysiology, communication technologies, cognitive science and humanities, articles describe basic concepts, give current perspectives, describe forms, and examine how intersubjectivity responds to new ideas. Topics include understanding and intention, the "enactive" approach to social cognition, social interactions through embodied action, conceptual and methodological issues in the investigation of primates, human communication, the integral element of presence, stages in the development of perception, interaction through a mirror system, changing between self and other, the ontogeny of action perception and control, the role of joint commitment, dynamic representation of occluded actions, communication and experience, and adolescent autism as a tool in studying the development of intersubjectivity.
