The British Pre-Raphaelite Illustrators is the most comprehensive study of Pre-Raphaelite graphics yet published, embellished with more than 525 illustrations. In this revised and expanded edition (of the book originally published as The Pre-Raphaelite Illustrators), 75 of the images are newly reproduced, and all of the illustrations have been rescanned and enlarged for improved detail. There are authoritative biographical essays on forty artists, whose Pre-Raphaelite engravings are critically discussed. Together with hundreds of additions and differences in the text, substantial changes have been made in the book's design for this edition. For each artist there is a catalogue of his complete illustrative output - all known wood-engravings, etchings, steel-engravings, and lithographs - and these catalogues (with much new material) now appear in the Appendix, leaving Gallery pages of unfettered art to follow each essay.

Hardcover. 4to. Blue cloth with copper spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 352pp. Extensive illustrations. Fine/fine. Pristine second edition -- the preferred "greatly revised and expanded" edition -- of these (to continue subtitle) "critical biographical essays, more than 525 illustrations, and complete catalogues of the artists' engravings and etchings." This copy bears a choice addition: Tipped in facing title page is a unique frontispiece, a fine engraved portrait of John Ruskin, Plate 30 from "The Century Gallery of One Hundred Portraits" published by Century Magazine in 1897 -- a striking engraving by T. Johnson first published in that periodical in 1887. In addition, tipped into this copy facing the half-title page is an unidentified early 20th century 5½" X 9¼ sepia tone portrait of Ruskin (likely a book plate). Press release laid in.
