Second printing of the first edition (stated). Biography of the man who influenced the game of football more than any other coach in history, Paul Brown. Born in small-town Ohio in 1908, Brown played high school footbal before moving on to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he starred as an undersized quarterback. He returned to caoch his high school team before landing his dream job at Ohio State where he won a National Championship. In 1946, he became the head coach of the AAFL's and later the NFL's Cleveland Browns, a position he held until 1963. Over the years he would recruit such greats as Otto Graham, Lou Groza, Marion Motley and others. In the 1957 draft, the team signed Jim Brown; he would become one of the all time greats of the NFL though his relationship with Paul was sometimes Rocky. Artikel-Nr. E30151

The story starts with Brown's birth in small-town Ohio, moves through his gridiron days in high school and at Miami University in Ohio. After returning to high school to launch his coaching career, he landed his dream job at Ohio State, where he won a championship. After World War II he became the first head coach of the Cleveland Browns, then in the upstart All-Amewrican Football Conference, and remained with them when they enterted the NFL in 1950. Though at heart a humb le man, he nonetheless demanded control of his teams and rarely forgave an affront, clashing with athletic directors and owners. When he stopped winning, fans and players, especially Jim Brown, called for his removal. Five years later, he became owner, general manager, and head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. Artikel-Nr.
