Anunnaki Ancients

Within the history and lore of ancient Mesopotamia – which comprised parts of what, today, are Syria, Iran, Kuwait, Iraq, and Turkey – the most legendary, revered, unearthly beings were known as the Anunnaki. They were entities that, over the last few decades, have collectively become an integral part of “ancient astronaut” research. This is hardly surprising, since the word, “Anunnaki,” literally translates into English as “those who from the heavens came to earth,” and is taken from the name of an ancient god of the skies, Anu. On top of that, Mesopotamia is acknowledged as being one of the key places on the planet where human civilization began.

This has all given rise to the idea that, far from being the literal deities that many take them to have been, the Anunnaki were visiting astronauts, from a faraway world; ones who tried to bring stability and culture to the previously primitive people of Earth – although specifically for their benefit, rather than for ours.

Although the Anunnaki have been depicted as definitively reptilian-like in appearance, there is also a widely held belief that they were very human-like in appearance, but much taller, and perhaps even in the region of eight to twelve feet tall. It is this belief that has led to suggestions that the Anunnaki, and their half-human offspring, were the legendary “giants” of the Old Testament.

It has also been suggested that the Anunnaki were very much a chthonic body of entities – that’s to say they were the denizens of a dark underworld. But, whether they were gods, visitors from a far away solar-system, or a highly advanced race of humans that dwelled deep underground, no-one can deny that they left a profound mark on the people of Mesopotamia.
