9781573676540: Lovely Letters: 9 Cross-Stitch Alphabets & Monograms

Personalization or monograming has been around for thousands of years. It appears on currency, insignias, and clothing, and it has been used on embroideries for centuries. From linens and clothing to baby items and household goods, putting one’s initial or initials on something imparts a unique classic style. Add a single letter for personalization or a traditional three-letter monogram to items like hand towels, photo albums, or pillows. Personalize shirts, scarves, bookmarks, or tote bags. This book features nine alphabets that are perfect for adding a personal touch to nearly anything. The alphabets are divided into three categories: Clean & Classic, Elegant & Exquisite, and Fun & Funky, each of which features three alphabets with letters that can be easily combined to create names or words. The colors can be altered and the fabrics changed to create projects that are functional, beautiful, and one of a kind. The alphabets here range from simple, clean lines to fanciful letters made of flowers. There are classic bordered letters and whimsical letters made with bright colors. The finishing on every project is simple, with easy-to-follow instructions addressed step by step in the Finishing chapter. Your creations will be treasured for years to come. We hope that you enjoy the designs and unique finishing ideas in this book and will decorate your stitching with Lovely Letters.

February 2015 Inside this book are nine different cross stitch alphabets and monograms, enabling you to personalize whatever you wish. The fonts are divided into three sections, each containing three different alphabets so you can choose from elegant, fun and classic. There are swirly curly letters, old English styles, funky backgrounds and my own favorite letters made from flowers. All are aimed at the "confident beginner" and I would suggest anybody with a bit of basic cross stitch experience would be able to tackle them. This is a book of alphabets not projects but there are ideas showing how you can "make it your own" which provide food for thought. Adorn an album, decorate an apron, make a pincushion or jazz up an ereader cover to give a few examples. At the back are instructions on reading charts, doing the stitches and selecting needles, thread etc as well as how to finish off a few of the project ideas. Charts are in black and white symbols, with DMC colors given and suggestions for what to work it on. If you want detailed instructions for projects you won't find them in here but if you are looking for several attractive alphabets this is a good place to find them. * * July 2015 Personalisation or monogramming has been around for thousands of years and been used on linens, clothing, baby items and household goods for centuries.
