Graphic artist Alberto Vargas introduced the luscious "Varga Girl" pinup in the October, 1940 issue of Esquire Magazine. By the end of World War II, his models had become the quintessential pin-up, alluring ly beautiful yet simultaneously warm, innocent and approachable. As well as ordinary girls, Vargas used as models such icons as Betty Grable, Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo.
